ART IMPROVEMENT!

I know a lot of people are just starting out in art. I am definitely not a professional but I’ve been seeing improvement in my art lately. I would love to help out anyone I can and show you different things you can practice to better your art. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t see improvement in a day, it takes practice and time. Also every artist is different and learns in different ways and speeds so if this isn’t for you no need to worry.

patience!!!!

I personally have trouble taking my time on artwork and rush to try and finish it. I know a lot of artists who take their time and are naturally good at slowing down, but i’m not and I know a lot of people have trouble with it. This all depends on you, if you feel like you’re good at taking your time you can skip this, but if not stay.

First I would say to try and focus your attention on one spot, so if you’re drawing a face after you sketch and do some light shading, pick out a part of the face you want to start off with. Like the nose, pick out a reference and look at the details, try to take your time and make it as similar as possible, or not if that isn’t your art style. Look at the texture, color and shading look at a couple different references with different perspectives so you can get a better understanding of what you’re trying to make. :)

shading & blending

I know, I know EVERYONE tells you this “practice shading” , or maybe your art teacher made you draw shapes like spheres and cubes and shade them. Hate me if you want but it’s true shading is needed very much. Shading and blending, it’s hard for some people, some it’s not so I recommend that whenever you make an art piece look over it and find things you need to work on and focus your attention on that.

If you want you can draw 3D shapes and shade them with different perspectives and light angles on a page. MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT A REFERENCE!!! Maybe if you’re tired of drawing that then try something different for example something in your room like a candle, camera, stuffed animals, books, and lamps really anything that you want to draw and draw it over and over again with different perspectives and light angles. This should help when you get practice in and learn different techniques.

lines

I know what you’re thinking, “lines?”, yes lines are important. VERY IMPORTANT!! sorry for yelling. As you know there are thick and thin lines, dark and light lines, it is important to use the right lines. Whenever you look at a drawing, you can see there are more defined parts that might need a line. But in some drawings you don’t use lines at all, only shading, it really depends what you’re drawing and what style of art.

Okay the real reason I wanted to write about lines is because I always see people sketching with super thick and dark lines and they apply a lot of pressure on the paper which makes it hard to erase later. When sketching make sure to use light lines with not a lot of pressure so if you mess up you can always erase it with no trouble. If you have trouble with not applying pressure hold your pencil at the top, it helps a lot and is effective.
